Hi!
I’m Tristian, the owner and primary author of Unfolding Bytes. I started this website with a desire to share my unique perspectives and ideas surrounding technology with the rest of the world.
About me
I’ve always been interested in computer systems and the inner-workings of technology. Ever since I became involved with software at a young age, I loved experimenting with every part of it and learning how things were built under the hood.
My first public appearance presented itself at age 11, when I began making YouTube videos demonstrating my software tips and tricks with the rest of the world. Whenever I spent a significant amount of time learning something new that I couldn’t find an answer for online, I would publish a video in hopes that other people with the same question as me would stumble across it and find it helpful. Eventually people did, and it made my day waking up to comments exclaiming how easy-to-follow and helpful they were to them.
Growing up, I was always the odd one out with my computer knowledge. I would be layers deep in discoveries, and when I came back to the surface to share them, nobody knew what I was talking about. Explanations would be met with stares, and attempts would be floundered by disinterest and confusion. All they knew was, “if you have a computer problem, that’s the guy”. Years of being in that position have drawn me to take much greater interest in making the technical aspects of computers more intriguing and approachable to everyday people.
The world has changed a lot since those years, and we’re currently living through some of the most profound shifts in our technology’s history. Consumer rights are on the edge of a cliff, the quality of our products is in steady decline, and artificial intelligence is eliminating the need for people like me to keep doing what I’m doing, but I’m still going to do it.
The unnecessary divide between knowledgeable enthusiasts and disconnected consumers exists partly because there aren’t enough people bridging the gap. As long as it remains that way, curiosity will cease to grow, and problems will seldom receive enough attention to be solved. We need as many people as possible to not only grasp the latest changes, but have a clear image of how it’s affecting them and what they can do to help. If we succeed, we’ll be on track towards a world where the companies influencing our lives are held more responsible, people are less frustrated with their devices, and the tech sector becomes increasingly difficult for monopolists to use abuse for their own benefit. Unfolding Bytes is my new home to work towards that goal, while also being my personal blog for any tech endeavors I believe are worth sharing.
That’s been my journey and vision compacted into an about page. As always, thank you for reading and I hope you find my work interesting! If you know someone who would benefit from anything here, please send it their way.
